2 core shielded wire will be the easiest to find, you might find single core. Stereo needs two core and mono needs single

Check out markertek.com for some Mogami 2524, Canare GS-4 (22AWG) or GS-6 (18AWG) - these are pretty common single conductor plus shield guitar cables. Or get some Belden 8412, two conductors plus shield, if you want to go semi-symmetric (also referred to by some as semi-balanced, however, there is nothing balanced about it). This is when you use both conductors as for the guitar signal, and the shield is only terminated at the end of the cable that plugs into the amp. That is how I have all my cables.

I was thinking of this earlier today.
I dunno if it would be cheaper than the little $2 patch cables though.

By the by S-video cables (good quality ones at least) are made of 2 shielded wires. Usually they are thin and round in opposite to RCA cables.
