AutoCAD drilling template for your use.

I've done a simple drilling template for AutoCAD and I'd like to post it in case anyone is interested but I'm not sure how to host such a thing.  Is there a place to stash files for download along the lines of a photobucket?

The drawing is based on the common Hammond knock offs from overseas.  I measured what I believed to be the useable area on top of the enclosure with my calipers and went from there.  I print it out in 1:1 scale, cut it out with an X-Acto knife and a straight edge, and center on top as best I can.  There are small dots over the holes so you can center punch them and drill pilot holes before you use your Unibit TM.

If I can't get it hosted but you'd like a copy, just PM me and I'll send it to you.  Again, it's nothing fancy and R.G.'s is probably better but I got AutoCAD 2007 not long ago so I figured I'd try it out.  Also, I can change the drawing if you use different sized enclosures/Knobs etc.

Thanks,

I'd LOVE to have this but I don't have AutoCAD...can you export it in a PDF or something?

That would be fantastic!

I'll see if I can do that.  Didn't even think of trying that.  Also, I think Autodesk used to offer a free "viewer" called Voloview or something like that.  But I'll see if I can export it.  If you'd like different sizes, of enclosures knob etc, don't be shy.  I need to keep my AutoCAD chops up.

Sounds great. Is it for the 1590BB or the 125B? I actually use both quite a bit so they both would be very helpful. Thanks for doing this.

Why don't you offer both the DXF and DWG files ? That should make most CADers happy.

To be honest I hack and modify the Hammond files to suit my needs.

You can use PDF995 to convert AutoCAD drawings to PDF files. I do it all the time. :icon_wink:

^Would somebody be so kind as to do it for me?  I'm on a Mac.

I sent you an email, but it seems you didn't get it...
Could you make me a template for a 1590B big box clone?   :)

Thanks!

Could someone send the templates for me Thanks.

Hey,

Sorry to be lagging on this.  I work for a major American university in New Haven CT, and they've kept me very busy lately.  I think I may have missed some PM's during the server move.  But if you're looking for something please just PM me again now that everything is settled.

I got a nice piece of software for converting DWG to PDF (for the next 28 days anyway ;-)) so I can do other enclosures and send them in PDF format if you like.  I've only got the Hammond style enclosures here at home so I don't have dimensions for the others but I can still do templates if you measure them off.

I just measured what I felt was the useable space on top of the enclosure (pre fillet) and went from there.  Nothing scientific but seems to work well.  Also, make yourself a reference line across the top of the enclosure (you can find cheap squares at home depot, they make a small one perfect for marking enclosures) so you can make sure the template is parallel with the top or sides before marking your holes and drilling.
