Built this a while ago and recorded the soundclip back then too.

LP-type with one P90 -> BSIAB2 -> Line6 Toneport Plexi sim clean.
First rythm part is bypassed, second one with BSIAB at about quarter of gain, solos were at half the gain IIRC.

Enjoy!

There should be some pics in that folder too.

Can't tell ya how much I love this circuit.

Cool clip.

Do you know why they call it the "brown" sound?
It sounds "searing" or "hot" to me.  More like red or at least orange.

Long story short...
Early Van Halen was know to have "the Brown sound" (insert possible myth) due to the fact that he used a variac to lower the AC voltage to his Marshall head to get the thing to distort differently. In a lighting storm or other situation where the power fluctuates and the power is low is called a "brown out".
People often call a smooth distortion tone brown for some reason...  The BSIAB2 can be pretty mellow but can be a fire breather as well.
The clips posted here are on the Fairly mellow as far as the pedal gain goes.

Nice Clip by the way Jim! Where are the Pics though?

Yes, very nice clip thanks.

Ed's BSIB2 design is simply awesome, always has been one of my favorites!

That enclosure is awesome!  Of course, the pedal sounds great, too.

Nice box, but where are the entrails pics?

Ahh you know how those maplin boxes are... once you screw the lid down, they stay that way until you REALLY have to change the battery. I was just too darn lazy to jump on the box and start wrestling it open to take the innards pics. ;D Believe me, you don't want to see the innards anyway. :D

excellent clip.. love it.. im gonna build it next..  btw.. i went to e site u posted above and hear the dragster.. sounds wonderful.. did u design that pedal?? is there a schematic somewhere for me to try out?? one of the best clips of pedals i heard..

thanks.
thanks in advance to everyone who helped me in anyway.

I'm afraid that's not all dragster in that clip. It starts out with the TonePort emulation of Plexi, then I kick in the Dragster. It's a boost. Big Bad tube boost to make yer amp sound wooly and mean. :icon_twisted: If I get the second prototype right, I'll post the schemo and layouts with some pics and clips.

If you like the overdrive in the beginning, get the toneport. Pretty handy little thing for recording pedal clips and general noodling. (or alternatively, build the BSIAB. Should get you fairly close.)

So was the process on the BSIAB2 box an etch with resist followed by an all over partial etch to get the "patina" over the bare aluminum areas? I dig that look .

I have a done a couple test runs with that sort of aproach.
I'm working on Joe Davisson's "growing copper" on aluminum look as well.
Copper over an etched box with tarnish and black filled in lettering for that medeval look.

The key to that finish is a crappy transfer. ;)

The etch is also a bit shallower than I would have wanted. Gotta revisit markm's tut.
