Well, I started with three builds - all not working. Tonight I went back to the SB and took a look. One of the wires on the Gain pot wasn't soldered.   :icon_redface: Soldered it up, reassembled, Success! I can't turn it up tonight, so it's hard to judge, but it seems to be pretty "transparent", as they say. At least I don't hear as much coloring as in the Rangemaster I built first. Question: should the Gain pot be supplying anything other than gain? I don't hear any tonal or distortion change, at least at these low volumes.

Kudos to Dragonfly - it's nice to have simple builds with schematics and layouts for pedal beginners like me. Now I have to get the Easy Face working.

Cool Jon !

I have debugged all of my effects that wern't working and feel great about it.  It bothered me seeing them sit there for months, it's great feeling, eh ?

I have two tube amp chassis sitting on the floor waiting for me, dammit. Between the two of them, there's several hundred dollars of parts laughing at me every time I walk pass them. I decided to build a few pedals just to take a break from troubleshooting the amps.

Mine breaks up pretty well in the last 1/3 of the gain pot's rotation.  I also added some diodes to ground in the output, whcih are switchable.  I know that someone had a really good soundclip up, but I can't remember who.  I have clips of mine here: http://www.freewebs.com/jayp5150/pedalsschemssoundclips.htm

Scroll down to the paragraph "Dirty Boost 2" and it will give you the set-up used for the clip.

Welcome to an addiction  ;D

Its always the little things....

Glad you like it...at a bit higher volumes you'll notice the gain pot adding grit....

I had a similar thing when I was in school. I'd have trouble with a type of problem when I was taking a class. Then I'd see the same problem the next year, and the whole thing would be obvious, and I'd wonder what the original problem was. Statistics was like that. Everything was obvious after it stewed around in my noggin for a while, without conscious effort.

Yeah that happens to me too.
Makes ya feel like a horse's arse especially when the problem becomes obvious.  :icon_redface:
