hey guys

im doing a vox 846 vero that will fit in a 1590bb which i will post for everyone shortly.

i have the original vox schem which i have stayed honest to except for one part.

the 4uf np to ground. i checked rg's geofex tech of wah page which only seems to reference 4.7uf polar to ground.

why was the 4uf np cap replaced by a 4.7uf polar cap in all of the latest schems? wouldnt a 4uf cap have a more subtle wah sound? can you even get 4uf np caps readily today?

obviously if i use a 4uf np greencap the spacings for the cap will be different from a 4.7uf polar cap - i am trying to make it a neat as possible with all parts fitting perfectly - no pin bending involved :)

cheers

From RG's the "Technology of Wahs"

Important that it be large enough to bypass all signal at its (+) terminal to ground. From 4.7uF on up, little effect on sound. As it gets smaller, the sound becomes more of a loudness variation and less of a wah. If this cap is defective, wah pedals sound like volume pedals.

It's a 4.7uF simply because it works fine and they're easy to find.

4uf electros are hard to find nowadays, although not impossible. (i have a couple)

But as far as i understood, you are building a "parked wah", so the wah-wah_ing is not what you're really after.

In that case, a 4.7uF (and up) would do just fine!

btw, the 4uF MAKES a (small but audible) difference! (as long as the actual value is indeed 4uF. Mind the tolerances!!!)
