Proco Rat "Classic" observation ....

..... so I've had a "Classic" for some time, it's the slightly "wider" Rat than the original.
I modified it a couple of years ago using AMZ's E-book ( Thanks Jack ) which is well worth
buying as it contains tons of great information on the Rat and the Big Muff.

It's only downfall was the lack of status LED.
Now on the board was a "space" and hole for the LED and traces etc to connect one  AND ......

...... it even had a 3PDT switch with the centre polls EMPTY !!

So fitting one only involved connecting the ground/8k2 resistor from 9v and poles of the switch
to a nice "ultra blue" led and drilling a hole "exactly" where the board hole was, in the chassis.

Just seems ODD that Proco didn't do that, why waste a 3PDT switch  ??

Hey, I did see that same thing when I modded someones Vintage Rat.......

I guess they cracked under the pressure of the press that the "magic blue switches" does improve tone and people will decide yes or no buy on these switches

Just my opinion

i've noticed this before. the "new" rats use the 3rd pole. my assumption is that they sourced the switches before they changed the production circuits, and therefore had no use for the 3rd pole. It's probably just a case of slowly moving from one design to another.

incidently, as iv already posted, the "new" rats sound like shit. they are far more saturated and bass heavy.

Anyone ever heard a Juggernaut(rat bass variant)? Just curious...

I always wondered looking at the PCB in my "vintage" rat (bought before DIY) how to implement their Millenium-like bypass with LED, its one board for the vintage, rat II, and turbo rat, and there was a missing spot for a transistor and a couple components.

Its weird, I took the brute force approach to a status LED and changed from the stock carling DPDT (which was going bad, I swear those switches are garbage) and put in a 3pdt.  What was weird was that it had less threads on it, so it sat down lower and I would semi-regularly miss clicking the switch all the way down because it sat down lower than before.  I wonder if they addressed this, since they're using the blues?

Man, I gotta find a good mod for mine, there's so much room inside, just taunting me.  Maybe blend some crazy fuzz circuit in like the Punkifier.

I tried one out because it was so cheap I thought I couldn't pass it up (the store it was at marked it down like 4 times, until it was $75 or something like that).  I though it sounded like shit compared to my DIY rat -- my DIY rat cleans up nice and is capable of providing a nice warm growl for bass.  The Juggernaut was just harsh, and the blend knob didn't really help that at all -- it just sounded like a harsh bass and a clean bass.  Also, easy to fix, but one of the loudest pops I've ever encountered on a pedal when turning it on.  I was still tempted to buy it to put in a DIY rat board, and keep the hardware components and blend circuit, but ultimately it just wasn't worth it to me.
