i have several questions...

what other printer types can i use? i have a bubble jet and was hopng i could use this.

is there a step-by-step thread here about etching using photopaper? i tried seaching but i just found some comments etc...

is there a software dedicated into making pcb layouts? like, they have presets for 8-pin dil's preset lengths for resistors... etc

thanks guys, im new to this forum and now im getting hooked by it
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

A bubblejet is an inkjet. You need a laserjet.

Ok I will clear this up although its been said a 100 times.  You CANT use a bubble jet / ink jet printer it MUST be a laser printer

the reason is simple.  Ink Jet is water base ink get it wet its screwed.  Not much good for etching

Laser uses a toner which is kinda like plastic and will resist the etch process also thats how you manage to iron the design onto the enclosure/pcb  as it heats up the toner and it then sticks to what you are ironing it to

There's stuff about if you search long enough and some videos on youtube too.  The basics are its the Same as Press n peel but you print on the shiny side and iron on let it cool then soak it off.  Come to think of it, look for instructions on Press n Wet

Yes there is a lovely piece of free software written by a member of this forum.  Look at the top of the page I am sure its a sticky thread.  Its written by bancika a very nice man indeed.  Just goto that thread and click the link to his homepage at the bottom of each post he makes there is a link.

Yeah its kinda addictive making stuff.  People in here are really friendly but the biggest favour you can do yourself is to read ALL the FAQ's and follow guides in places like the what to do when it doesnt work thread and always search first.  That way you will get much more help.

What country are you in?

I am in the UK I went out and bought a brand new Samsung Laser for £55 the other week its just for printing out stuff for etching.  I never need colour and when I did have an inkjet the damm ink used to dry between using it.

For the price I paid I dont care toner is £40 as it will last me years with the use I am going to give it then I will simply sell the printer for £10 on ebay or maybe more lol  and buy a new printer with toner in it

Thats my solution anyway

I have a rather weird idea. Can't you print it whatever way you want and then photocopy it in thoes machines in the library? those machines are laser based and I don't think they'll mind it if you use you own paper. And you can find thoes machines everywhere nowadays.
Seems like a way to be saved from buying a laser jet (though abusing a friend with a laser jet is an option as well).

yeah this is another perfect idea aslong as the photcopier will produce a good copy, some change the size a bit.  You will have to do a dummy print on a pieve of normal paper and mark one face so you know if it inverts the paper when feeding so you know what way to load the transfer paper either pnp or photo paper.

other than that its a good plan

So you should ask the person in front of you to check a little dot on the side of his paper before it is printed to check if it slips it, and check twice that the setting is for 1:1?

I don't know, the photocopiers I've been using where pretty advanced.
One thing that can go bad is the quility. sometimes it leaves traces and marks.

But you can put it in many variations: Fax it, photocopy it in a small office kind of photocopy machine (which usually gives better quility for ten times the time) or just abuse a friend who works in an office to make you a print once in a while.

And here the libraries have laser printers (if they happen to have computers  :icon_rolleyes:) so it can be abused as well.
