Hi,

I want to output one signal to two differents amps simultenously, without switches. Just a plain y adapter. How do I make this? I tryed to make it like this (see diagram), but when I plug two cables in the out jacks, it makes a short (well, duh!) and nothing goes out, but independently, the two jacks work.

How can I duplicate the signal to two outputs?

Anything special about your output jacks? Just standard mono non-switched? Because, as drawn, your diagram will work fine as a y adapter...

Here's another question- are your jacks crowded for space? It's possible that with all 3 plugged in a 'hot' touches ground(or the enclosure), and shorts everything.

One last question- did you get hot and ground wires mixed up in one of the output jacks?

I'm all outta ideas...

Looks Ok as drawn. Somewhere a short, or something changes when the plug is put in.

But...... it's much cheaper just ot get a 2 to 1 mono adaptor plug!
(don't confuse this with the somewhat more common 1/4 stereo to two 1/4 mono adaptor plug).

I used stereo 1/4 jacks because mono ones were out of stock at the store. I made it in a stomp box because I wanted it to be sturdy (i play a lot of gigs, and anything can happen on a stage!). I checked and no wires were touching and even though the ouputjacks are somewhat close to each other, nothing touches when to jacks are inserted. Maybe one of the cables I connected was bad.

If you say that the design is good, that will give me confidence!

Thanks

I think if you've used stereo jacks, you may need to short the ring to the sleeve. When I used stereo jacks to make up a guitar lead I had to do that. Or did I short the ring to the tip. I forget now.

False alarm!

The thing works like a charm! Probably one of the cables I used was faulty. It's pretty noisy though, but what else can you expect when you connect two amps together... (something with the grounds I guess)

Build yourself a buffer or booster to help with that...

yep, a buffer would be good in most situation where you're splitting the signal into two (though placing something like a Boss pedal before the junction box would also work)

to get rid of the hum from the 2 different amps try these:

To get rid of the hum, use plastic jacks and install a ground lift on one of the output jacks.
