Doing LED's better quick question...

I was browsing Dragonfly's gallery and noticed a layout for easy 3PDT wiring.  I like it better than what I'm doing in particular with regards to wiring the LED.  So, if the LED negative lead goes to lug 3 do you just wire the positive LED lead straight to the DC jack?

I think I've been doing it kinda backwards.

Thanks as usual.

needs a resistor in between the LED anode and the + of your DC jack, or the LED will burn out.  I personally have gotten in the habit of using the 3pdt wiring that grounds the input, because high gain stuff can oscillate if the input is left floating like on Dragonfly's (nicely drawn) layout.  Also the dry signal only has to pass through one switch when it gets switched to bypass, that may possibly make that point in the switching slightly quieter.  But for lower gain effects either one is fine.

heres the grounded input one, also showing the LED wiring.  LED and resistor can go in either order, by the way:

the order of it all doesn't matter. it can be switched from anywhere and the resistor can go on either side of the led, before or after switching. there's no backwards, just convenience for the circuit. if you are using the ground to input when bypassed method then of course you'd have to get the polarity around the right way.

I wire mine like this......
Don't know if'n it's good or bad but, I've seen others do it the same way!

I'm surprised more people don't do layouts with the LED resistor on the PCB itself.  It makes for neater wiring and is less of a hassle if your DC jack and LED are far apart in the enclosure.

I dislike flying leads to the LED, I've got enough stuff to handwire in my boxes. Usually I put the LED where it can reach both the switch and PCB and I'll hang the resistor on the back of the switch.
