Compressor for Cleans?

I'm looking to build a compressor specifically for clean tones to bring the volume of single notes and chords closer together, and also to let me do fast legato stuff on the clean channel like Guthrie Govan. Would the MXR Dynacomp be good for this? Any mods that would be good for it?

I'd have to say the Orange Squeezer or Dynacomp would be good choices plus there are relatives of these circuits about as well.

Orange Squeezer is nice for clean guitar, and simple to make.  If you do try it, there is a mod for adding a couple components for making the second half of the dual opamp add some gain, which is necessary, mine can't quite get to unity gain with my strat, so it hasn't gotten used in a while, even though it has a nice response.  Its cool trying compressors out playing in a loud band that uses clean sounds, because you'll hit it, and your guitar won't seem louder, but all of a sudden its more noticeable.

Do you know where one could find this mod?  I tried to search, but there were so many hits that I couldn't figure it out.

That's odd !
Got my OS in an old original case and it's set to easily give me a little boost in vol
when engaged ....

The Flatline from John Hollis is also an excellent choice.  No tone coloration AT ALL.

Just look at the last opamp section (though Hammer's other mods are compelling) for how to do it.  Everything after the level pot.  Note there needs to be a coupling cap (.47uF would be fine, or .1) after the wiper on the level control and before R15 and R16 that bias the input to the opamp.  I'd make R18 at least 27K though, to have more output available, 15K sounds too light to have a comfortable surplus of volume available.

No volume issues with any clones of the O/S that I've built?

mine could boost fine til I started using a jaguar more(hotter pickups, I guess):icon_sad:

The opamp on the end is a nice buffer too, I dimly suspect I've had inconsistent reactions between the OS and other pedals because of the way the feedback path to the FET coming right off the output.

I can't imagine, I was just OS-ing a 3sc strat type guitar, and HB on LP, Os has lots of spare output past unity, it's low noise a bright sounding too. I used an NE5532.
There are many good Comp Options.
