well, finaly i decided on constructing the fabled FF using 2SA201's...

is it any good?
thats the only Ge in the local store...
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

Stick it in your 'test circuit' and see.
Use a GEO transitor checker to test for leakage and gain, or a FF w/sockets and bias trimpot. See GEO technology of the Fuzz Face.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Yes, why not if they are "within spec"?...

check out what i did with their cousins...   :icon_mrgreen:

2SA201. Manufacturer?

BTW, I use 2SA102 and 101 from Matsushita. Amazing.

Really??? What were the hfe's on those?

mac

Vanessa,
There is a datasheet available at datasheetcatalog or alldatasheet.
Anyway, I bought 2SA101/102 with different hfe sub class. If you find some of this, look for the ones having CA, CX, DA, DX which are in the Fuzz Face lower limit, ie, hfe 70. Leakage around 100 - 150uA.

See this link and see pics and characteristics of my Ge:

first ill be perfboarding this... requires only few components.

oh, whats the pin config on this transistor?
i can see a circle marking in the can. and i can make out the triangle config of the pins when viewed from the bottom.

What brand are your 2SA201? Hitachi? I found the datasheet at datasheetarchive.com.

whoa~! i dont have an idea with the brand... the can says just A201.
i can locate the base since pnp transistors act like two diodes with cathodes connected at the base...
ill check the site

mac,
the data sheet in that site is in japanese!!

The only thing I can not guess from the jap DS is the pin out. But with a DDM you can, if the center leg is the base most likely that it is "e b c", from bottom, inverted 'V". The collector side may have a dot or circle.
