I just built the mosboost on Tonepad's layout, and I have a problem. I'm not getting signal. I think I may have wired the mil bypass wrong. i used a bs170 and an mpf102. the mpf102 is the bypass tranny, correct? anyway, if i remember correctly i'm getting what llok like normal voltages on the mpf102 but the bs170 is all outta wack. something like around 5 volts on all legs (i'm at work right now, but wanted to post while i remembered to do so :) ) what do you guys think? i wired the switch according to the how-to on geofex, but i worry that i may have it wrong. a little help?

It may the the BS170 was fried by soldering and/or static: that happens a lot with mosfets (to me at least).

Yes, the mpf102 is the m-bypass tranny.  Wiring that incorrectly will not cause the circuit to not work, it will only cause the LED not to light up.  Unless you wired it in such a fashion that prevents DC from getting into the audio portion of the circuit.  And I don't know how you'd do that.

Also... a lot of BS170s out there have different pinouts.  I've gotten two different pinouts from the same place before (at different times).  Problem is, unless its a siliconix or a fairchild, it's tough, or even impossible, to tell the manufacturer was.  If you socketed the BS170 and haven't trimmed it yet, try bending around and swapping the top two legs, and then the bottom two.  Flip it around and try again.
