Using Computer Speaker as enclosure / How to eliminate "bacon sizzle"

I built this 'Little Gem' from the runoffgroove.com site and it's got enough power to run a speaker, but I had an idea of using some old Boston bass ported computer speakers and putting the circuit inside the computer speaker and letting it be it's own little self contained amp.
The problem I have is that it puts out way too much power for the computer speaker, so it ends up sounding bad unless you back the volume way off...then it also has that bacon sizzle problem.

What can I do to cut down on the bacon sizzle?

This is the schematic I used:

nothing.  You can't drill a hole with a drill bit attached to an electric toothbrush, so why try to make your speaker do what it physically can't?

If you're really hellbent on the enclosure, replace the speaker with a solid one.  www.partsexpress.com will get you started.

ROG lists a few a gain mods in the schem gif.
Have you tried those?

But I agree with the above. Small speaker suck with musical instrument amplifiers.

It is hard to get decent tone out of anything less than a 6" speaker.
A good 8" is ideal.

Replace the speaker with one intended for musical instruments. 8 ohms.
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.

We hooked a chuck on an old floor polisher motor..and put a switch on the AC line, worked just fine.
