I want to build something I can "modulate" like a Z.vex probe...having something interact with a surface to increase the intensity of the sound. I've heard his pedal works with an LED that gets brighter as you encounter the surface, and a photoresistor regulates some do-hickey and that increases the intensity. I'll prolly mod an existing circuit...can some give me some better insight on how this works, and what the photo resistor should be connected to?

those Zvex pedals work on a theremin like circuit

try this here: http://topopiccione.atspace.com/PJ16TPCInvisibleTouch.html
it puts out a voltage, which you can then use the affect other things (eg: the brightness of a LED which is coupled to a photoresistor that is in your circuit)
