I'm building this nice effect right now, following this layout:

But I'm not sure how to place the 3 transistors. What are C, B and E in this picture? I'm not using sockets so they must be placed right the first time :)

Has anyone here built the overdriver using this layout? Is it any good?

Thanks!

aron

C on top, B in the middle, E on the bottom.

NPN transistors.

Check out the FAQ regarding reading the transistor symbols and the schematic.

Good luck!

oh, it sounds ok. I still have mine.

Thanks aron! And I'll look at the faq first the next time. I'm using BC109's so that should be ok.

Another thing, on the original schematic, the 500pF cap on Q2 is a 200 pF. The 4.7uF connected to Q3 in this pic is a 25uF in the original. Do these changes do anything to the overall sound of the effect?

Thanks!

Using 500pF instead of 200pF probably won't make any difference to the sound it's just there to roll off very high frequencies to stop radio interference and oscillation. Using a 4.7uF instead of the 25uF won't make any difference. That cap is the wrong way round on the layout though, the + side should go towards the collector of Q3.

Good you noticed that one slacker. It is indeed the wrong way round compared to the other schematic I have. Thanks :)
