Wiring makes me angry......

I'm trying to wire a PNP positive ground Rangemaster and having no luck trying to figure out what's going on . I used the schematic from General Guitar Gadgets and thought I would be able to use their wiring too. Well, brilliant me decided that I didn't really want to ad a DC jack because I would never use it. It looked like I would just be able to cut that out of the equation...no problem. Well many hours later I still haven't gotten it done.

Below are the questions I have:

1. Can anyone point me to a "flow" diagram that shows how a 3P3T switch works? I can't seem to wrap my brain around it.
2. Is it possible to have multiple ways to wire the same circuit? Seems like every wiring diagram has things going in different spots on the switch.
3. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Rangemaster w/ 3p3t switch, LED and only battery? I might be able to figure it out if i could get the switch diagram, but this would lead me back to sanity a little faster.
4. How did I get myself into this mess?

I've searched and searched and search and I am at the end of my sanity rope. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my second build, but the first one didn't work and was un-salvageable. If this doesn't work I'll probably through all of my soldering tools, components etc. in front of a train.

I don't know how I'm going to get any work done today with this stuff flying around my brain.

Thanks!

Yes there is.

Welcome to the mess. Either get used to it and feel comfortable or quit building stompboxes. :D

Thanks!

I knew the switch thing was easier than I was make it out to be....... :icon_redface:

Lesson learned. When baffled, take a break and come back to it.

So for the link you posted, all I'll need to do is switch the battery to the other direction to make it Positive ground...correct?

JimRayden

Ahh, you have a positive ground circuit. In that case flip the battery and also the LED/resistor combination, so the resistor connects to the switch and LED cathode to the board.

Thanks again!

I was just looking at that diamgram and had a "light bulb" moment. I get it. It's all very clear to me now......until I go home and try to put it to work!

Does anybody know of a good wiring diagram that shows a npn circuit that omits the battery and has the DC jack only?

I've been trying to omit the battery snap and the LED and the switch from the GGG IC Buffer and haven't really had much luck. (I don't see why I need to turn off the buffer. I don't need an LED because it's always on and I used a really small enclosure 1"x2"x3" and can't afford battery space.

I've got it working now, but it's because I'm using a battery snap, just to make the circuit work. I'd love to know how to omit it.

Thanks,

Nic.

If it works without a battery now, the snap is not necessary, so just remove it.

I've been using Dano's page with great success:

Beavis Audio Research - Stompbox Wiring

A great thing to have around as a reference, a clean clear wiring guide!
Built: Fuzz Face, Big Muff Pi (Stock), Distortion + (Germanium and Silicon versions)

I forgot what an great site dano12 has - that's some great stuff.

A few times I have integrated pots on the PCB, and you could do everything on the PCB... that's one way to simplify things - but there are downsides to that as well. I have learned to be really neat, and listen to some great music while doing wiring.
