when basicaudio[i think its him] built his hwy89 i decided to build mine...

but the problem... it would be better if i have a sound clip but... im sorry.
the distortion is good and it has enough volume to push an amp into something like a metalzone distortion.

but the distortion seems to have a "doubling" effect... [even at low output volume]
which i think is not included in the sound package...
its like two guitars are played into the same dist box.

btw, i used 2n5088 for q1 and BC549's for q2 and 3...
could ths be because of the substitution? there are no more 2n5088's in our locale...

pin voltages:

Q1: e 1.0v b 5v c 4.25v
Q2: e 0.9v b 0.03v c9.5v
Q3: e 1.9v b 3.5v c 4.3v

the supply was measured at 9.5v
Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

PCB/Vero or perf ?
I've had it once or twice with a "clean" trace of the signal going where it shouldn't !

Yeah, just double check everything and see what you find. Maybe a solder brige of tiny hairline bridge with something touching where it should not. Which layout did you use?

i used the original layout given by mr hammond...

i even dont need string grounding with this one 'cause the hum was wicked...

As far as I know Doug never posted a layout for the Hwy 89.

Keep troubleshooting this pedal because you won't regret it.  This is a great sounding pedal and I use it all the time.  The power coming out of this thing is amazing.

John Lyons

My point was that an actual layout diagram was never drawn up and posted (to my knowledege).
I posted the schematic when doug said it was ok to do so.
So which layout did you use km-r?

its was the one doug gave me....

ok, i tweaked around the sections... i tried bypassing the tone section and the noise was reduced, it was ok.

then i tried fitting the tone components WITHOUT the pots [leaving pot pads open] and the volume was reduced, no noise.

could the pots be the problem? they seem to be in perfect performance condiiton [checked with VOM]
