What is this effect supposed to sound like?

I bread boarded this circuit and I know it's a funny noise maker but I'm getting so much variation that I'm not sure if something is wrong or if it's how it's meant to sound.  Has anyone else built this thing?

From the looks of it, my best description would be "impolite".  But that's not very helpful, is it?

Actually impolite just about sums it up.  From the sound clips it must be working right.  Pretty radical and obnoxious fuzzy beast.  I haven't determined if I'll keep this or not but it is interesting.  It may be useful as a synth module of some sort.
Ah ha!  That's where I saw that circuit.  It's some kind of random number generator.  Really wierd.
