Is there a simple ring mod?

I want to build a ring mod into a guitar body, a la manson guitars.

Is there a simple one that could be powered from a 9v battery?

They all seem really complicated and have loads of tuning and weird powersupplies involved.

Thanks

Check out Tim Escobedo's Thing modulator.  I think it's a pseudo ring mod.  Really simple circuit.

The Ring Frobnicator on geofex looks pretty simple and doubles as a tremelo.  I'm thinking of building one this weekend.

the mingrod is a passive ring mod
maybe that???
problem is it that it has carrier and source jacks

It depends what kind of a ring modulator you want.
The reason some ring modulators are comparatively complex, use expensive parts, and run at ridiculous voltages is that it is very difficult to stop the carrier bleeding through, and difficult to keep noise levels down.
But, there is nothing wrong with eg. the Thing Modulator or similar if you just want to be able to switch in some madness!
Another simple approach is the CGS style (transformer). http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgsrr.html
And aliasing circuits give you ring modulator style harmonics.

I've built the thing modulator and it is now on my pedalboard full time... GREAT effect and almost no bleedthrough.

Get the chip, pay the price for it... it is worth it.
