I've been building this http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=131&Itemid=184 pedal (my first, i have only some experience building circuits) and i'm getting the strangest results. currently with the wiring that they're showing on their website (PNP negative ground) im getting one mode on the switch that sounds slightly distorted and boosted, but non of the pots want to work and in the other mode i'm getting a much quieter signal and the volume pot works, but the others dont seem to have any affect on the signal. this is driving me nuts and i'm at my wits end, and because of my limited experience i cant tell if the diagram is wrong or what, but i do know that i havent made any obvious mistakes, i've gone over my etched bored a number of times (even built it twice) and scored inbetween all of copper to make sure there isnt any jumps, and i've also tried breadboarding according to different bypass switching diagrams i've seen. because of the strange stuff with the pots i'm thinking that the wiring diagram might have a mistake, but i dont know enough about electronics to realy go beyond that. if anybody can figure this out a quick response would be greatly appreciated so i can stop going nuts.

Thanks alot, i was planning to give this to my brother for his birthday (and then make another for my self later if i liked it  ;)) and now that has passed, so upsetting when i started to get this result. everything about the circuit seems so simple, but i still dont know enough to figure it out, just too many variables.

Yes, there was a thread about that schematic last week.
Someone said a BFCapacitor across the power supply fixes it.
Others report conversion to a Fuzz Face schematic known to work is the fix that did it for them. Probably the best help for it.
That schematic lacks a warning, it will continue cause problems for builders, the risk factor seems to be hard to pin down.
Other than that you're on your own.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

thank you. I've switched to positive ground and that seems to give me a clean chanel on the switch without the pots controlling anything (so that part seems to be fixed), but the effect channel is still quiet as hell (can barely hear it, but i can tell that the pots, or atleast the volume is working), what exactly do you mean by a BFcapacitor across the power supply? sorry, still inexperienced and naieve. i'm going to double check the battery to make sure i didnt some how accidentally drain it, but there seems to be progress. anybody else with suggestions?

You really need to check this thread and use your multimeter for this one since you've done all the obvious stuff.

Let us know.

i seem to be experiencing the most odd phenomenon, things seem to be working without the battery. so of course somethings not right, but its sounding cool. anyways, its all a learning experience.

There's a challenge for Zach, with his ultra-low drain efects. The only place to go now is put a solar cell on, for NEGATIVE power drain!
(seriously though, maybe there is a ground connection not making it).
