So I've seen a few layouts...one of which was great but i cant find now.

The other is this:

It has made me want to try building a mini head and cab for my Ruby amp I'm currently making.

I'll be using 4.5" speakers and want to hook this up to be mono but run with dual speakers like the link above.
Does anyone have any tips/tricks on starting a cab?
ideas for part supplies?

I'm fairly good with a router and plywood and so making it should not be a problem..its designing it and getting the right parts for it all.

Also if anyone has made a small cab type setup for their ruby or similar amp please feel free to post...ill need a few ideas to go over.

I'm already thinking of making it like a amp head and separate cabinet...but really small.

Thanks,
Dave

I've had this urge as well. My take on it...

Use a 1590B for the "Head" and one of the very large 1500 series for the "cab".
One Hammond around 10"x8"x4" is around $40.
No wood working and what a solid cab aluminum would make.

OR

Fender Frontman G15 amps going on craigslist for $25-$50 bucks.
Gut one of those and use the steel chassis and wood cab. Turn the solid state amp into a bench test amp mounted on plywood.

Good luck!
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.

It's a great idea but I would prefer the wood as its easier to work with and might sound better for the cabinet.
For the head, I would have to tape up the electrics to keep from shorts.

A good sheet of plywood will be well insulated, light weight, easy  to cut and work with, and most amp cabs are built with  it as it has a better "tonal quality".

I'll have to keep an eye out on CL, they normally have some good deals now and then and with a small amp like the one you mentioned I would save time and money by taking out the building, trimming, and painting processes.

Whatever you do, post pictures! Sounds like a really cool project.

Here's mine.  Not amazingly perfect, but it does look good from a few feet away.

Speakers....They seem hard to find.
I've gotten two speakers laying around..both 4.5"

1) 8 ohm, 5 Watt
2) 4 ohm, 3Watt

I put a speaker output on my Fender Tone master mini amp, (9V battery amp at MF) heres what I got:
The 4 ohm 3 watt is louder but the 8 ohm sounds like it has more bass and is less tinny...

I'm looking to make this a mono cab setup but with two speakers...like a combo amp but in the form of a speaker cabinet.

Anyone have any sources or ideas for good speakers?

I was looking at MF and they have some 8" 20W speakers which look good and the price is fair but I would have to wait a while before I could order them.

I've heard 8 ohms is better than 4 as the sound wont break up as much

The next step up at MF is this 10" unit at 35W:

Price is fair once again but its just more time to save up for it.
This one comes in either 8 or 16 ohm...

Now I can see making a nice cabinet with those 8 or 10 inch speakers later on but for now i'm looking to stay at 5 inches or under for a small cabinet that will be a nice size when I put the amp head i'm making on it.
