So yea after finishing my 9v pedal power unit I've found it extremely useful and thought I would start another project.

I was looking to buy a small headphone amp but found nothing really great at the stores.  After some searching here i found the Ruby amp and decided it was the best out there for me.

I looked at the PDF file layout and came to caps. 2, 3, and 5...they are labeled with an "n".....whats that?
I thought only UF and PF were for caps...

I am trying to get everything from Allelectronics.com so if anyone knows if they have them, send an item # in the reply.  Thanks

NF = Nanofarad.  Straight from the FAQ: http://xtronics.com/kits/ccode.htm & http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/caps/caps.html Search Capacitor Code Calculator and you will find a great web-based tool.  Check out GGG's introduction to capacitors.  As far as part numbers I dont use Allied so yeah its not hard to figure out with or without the cap calc.

I will quietly resist.

Thanks guys, those links are awesome.

It doesn't matter what project I decide to build....it always comes down to me ordering parts from a t least 2 different online stores.

All electronics - most of the electronics (caps, IC, resistors)
Radioshack - FET transistor
Jameco - POTs

I went though my collection last night and found a speaker from  my old Casio keyboard..its a 4.5" mid range which should sound fair..but only testing will tell when I'm done.

the case I'm getting is this:
http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/1598-BSGY/search/GREY_CHASSIS_CASE_5.26%22#34;_X_5.3%22#34;_X_2%22#34;_.html

Ive used them in the past and they are extremely well made.
With the size of this case I should be able to get the 4.5" speaker mounted inside with the other electronics but i also may want to do a combo or head/cab setup made from wood which i can slip this grey case into...it should look nice.

Thanks

I just went around the net and found all the parts...jameco had the POTs

Turns out this will be a $44 build with shipping charges really kicking it up from ordering at both AE and Jameco.

thanks but ive gotten it down to two stores.

anyways im looking to put a small fan into the case as ive heard the LM386 chips put out quite a bit of heat.
I will have a large heat sink on this chip but i thought a mini fan would add a nice touch.

anyways i found this micro 25MM fan on AE and was wondering if it would run and survive at 9VDC?

I wont be using this amp all day or anything like that..at most 2 hours at a time and up to 3 hours total a day.

if its not safe to run that at 9V how would i be able to get the supply for that down to 5v?

I built this headphone amp called the Headbanger.  All parts are available at Radio Shack.  I built four of them for my brothers band as a headphone distribution system.  They worked flawlessly.  The stereo input jack is on the bottom of the units with dual gang 100k pots.  They are housed in wide plastic cigarette cases that have built in belt clips.  Although a stereo Ruby setup would work also I'm sure.

they look great.
How much did you spend on one amp?

the shack around here isn't stocking a lot any more and some are closing.
Prices are quite high here now so most of the time ill just order from all electronics or some other online sites for parts.

I just ordered the parts and they should be in some time next week.
I ordered one of those mini 25mm 5V fans as well.

I never did get an answer for that 9/5V before on the fan...
