Hmmm.

On another board I read that piezo horns aren't suitable for talkboxes. Is this true? They are cheaper...

I think you need a compression driver.

I think Radio Shack used to carry the item needed, but no longer.

We used to get super HF out of peizo banks...if you're into cheep and good HF's which sound unnaturally HF'd...they work, they blow easy too.
I used to work with them.
I prefer the response from diaphram or cone type drivers on HF's for all applications.
Peizos...they start at what...a very high frequency, these don't tend to translate into waveforms of sufficient magnitude/low enough frequency through the tube/air/mouth/ to wiggle the mic element enough.
I recently got a full featured active Xover, a couple days later I found myself testing every driver I have for their amplitude/frequency capabilities under various conditions...we have a 'test record'...all kinds of stated frequency noises on there...another way to test drivers. These methods demonstrate exactly what frequencies and volumes a driver is capable of, and what their limits are...but they seem to follow/duplicate the specifications/data sheets almost exactly on the good stuff I've bought.
