Dual boost ideas

I am thinking of making a a dual boost in a 1590 box. The plan is to have one side as Dragonfly's Sparkle Boost and the other as the ROG Peppermill, with two footswitches and options for either on/both on. Does this combination offer two fairly different sounds (clean and grittier)? Any other combinations you guys could suggest ? I'm thinking of calling it the 'Double Whammy'  :icon_twisted:

I plan to breadboard these circuits first and see how I like the sound. Breadboarded the Sparkle Boost yesterday and it fired right up... really liked what I heard of it ( I didn't have a 5K pot, so just tried a few resistors from 1K to 5K to check different gains). How is the Snakebite booster different than the Sparkle Boost ?

I am a newbie to this, but have done my homework. I am reading a lot of info on this wonderful forum and would like to take this opportunity to thank all you guys ;D

It does sound like you're doing your homework, Neb...maybe some other forumites have combined boosters like you are going after, and can give you some ideas on how they like the sound.  The best thing about DIY, is that you get to customize all this stuff to your own specs! One man's nightmare is another's dream, and it's really very individualized.

A helpful thing to put together is an A/B switch that takes 2 inputs and lets you switch to 1 output (actually, make 2 - 1 to send the guitar into each ckt, and one at their output to select which one goes to amp).  You can do this in 1 box if you use a DPDT toggle.  Then you can build 2 things on breadboard and rapidly switch them off, and get an instant idea of how things compare.

I'd guess the Peppermill will be a lot grittier, and provide OD, with the sparkle boost adding some...sparkle and boost  8)  Sounds like a good project.

The A/B box seems like a pretty useful tool to have..thanks for the suggestion!

at least with the versions i built, yes the peppermill was gritty, and the sparkleboost, cleaner.

i've only built the sparkleboost, but mine does add some good mild to medium OD when all is maxed. either it or the peppermill might make a good boxmate with a mosfet boost.

Yeah..that was my original idea..but somehow the 'sparkle' appeals to me :)..guess its best to breadboard the circuits. The problem is that I am missing some parts like the correct pot values/type..and I live in India. This stuff is not available here :'(

i'm pretty sure futurlec.com and smallbear ship internationally...
