Im thinking about getting enclosures screened for a run of pedals. Looks like pedal parts plus would carge $730 for 50 enclosures drilled, painted and screened. Anyone know of a screening company WITHOUT a huge $150 setup fee or lower prices for screening or drilling services?

Shall I send you a quotation for consulting services?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

ha. That would defeat keeping the price down wouldn't it?

check your local yellow pages.  There's probably a machine shop in your town that can do precision drilling for you and probably a screen printing company near you that can print on metal.  It might not be the cheapest, but you'd have better oversight, you'd support your local economy and you wouldn't have to pay shipping.

And you might find someone who would be willing to do the work for a pedal or two as payment! Bartering rules!!!

A friend of mine went through this a few weeks back. Im mostly concerned about quality. It seems that loads of printers can do a great t shirt but cant produce a clear screen on a pedal to save their lives. I think its really going to be a problem since I need a big graphic too.

Well don't search for textile printing places, go with signalisation panels guys instead...  They are used to other kind of paints and used to do that on aluminium sheets.

From your first post it looked like you were mostly concerned about price.  ;) For 50 pedals, a total production cost of (say) $2500 is very reasonable, depending on complexity. If you haven't costed out the amount per unit, now is a good time to.

It's advisable to get this work done locally, that way you can meet the person doing the work face to face, explain exactly what you want (with respect to powercoating and paint adhesion for the silk-screening), and then also inspect the final product in front of them before you fork over the money. Contracting out this kind of work to some place that isn't local is asking for trouble, IMHO ... unless you can afford to blow your $$$ on a sub-standard drilling / paint / s/screening job, or you are trying to get it done as cheaply as possible. Keep in mind cheap = more chance of quality issues with paint / finish, and therefore less saleable units. You can't expect all 50 pedals to be 'perfect'.

Thanks for the advice. I think a ton of builders are using PPP right now and a lot of the screening they do looks good but not as good as I would want for the graphic Im thinking of. It seems like they do great with text, but not so much with other art. I need to shop around for a signmaking shop I guess.
