the slide pots work well, and so does the trim

a power supply issue could explain both, low power = dim led and less headroom.

checked power, voltage is fine.  i desoldered and resoldered some caps and the pots, and the distortion has pretty much gone away , except a little distorted bass response

does anyone have any ideas how to cut this distorted sound

never mind i have given up,  thanks for reply .
