Octave up/rambler question & possible Bay area source for Schottky diodes?

Does any one know where to buy components, specifically some 1n5817 schottky diodes in the SF bay area outside of radio shack?

Trying to build tim escobedo's rambler for a friday gig (so mail order is not an option).
Could only get radioshack parts due to time.
I tried it last night with regular si diodes (1N4004) & a lm386. It does not sound right (super noisy, all treble no fuzz)
Seems like there has been success using this ic so I figured the diodes are the problem.

Alternatively, Has any one had a sucessful rambler build using a different kind of diode or built an octave up fuzz using radioshack parts?
