What would be the cutoff year in old electronics to find Ge Tranistors?

Back when I was a kid, around 10 or so, for some strange reason I started pulling transistors out of junk nonworking radios.  I never used them for anything, but kept them in a box in the basement.  I ended up with around 40 or so Japanese Ge transistors of various numbers.  I recall some of those radios had 10 or more Ge transistors in them.  BTW, I still have the transistors.  Strange what being a pack rat will do...

Two other places you might luck out on Ge transistors; look in old Radio Shack stores as they used to carry Ge trannies on the shelf, a black TO5 can 2N100 IIRC.  Also, you can luck out at hamfests; several years ago I found a guy with a big box of new NPN Ge trannies for $0.20 each.  I bought about 25 of them, and about 15 tested as usable.  I should have bought the whole box.  When going to the hamfest, it helps a lot to bring along a transistor substitution manual; the old Radio Shack one is nice as it is small and has most of the Ge parts in it.
