I went to the library the other day and got this great book (Craig Anderton's, "DIY Projects for guitarists") on building stompboxes and alike. Are there any other similar reads anyone could recommend? I don't mind if it's a bit heavy.

Anderton's other book , "Electronic Projects for Musicians" is also very good. "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz & Hill is the master book for learning electronics - it has EVERYTHING, and it's explained very well.

Do a search as this is something that has been asked before. there are a number of books published by Babani that are relevant. Unfortunately most of them aren't in print anymore but they do turn up on e-bay and Amazon still lists some. Most of the projects I have built from these books have worked perfectly.
Here is a list of the ones I've got or seen.

Hi Fi PA Guitar and Discotheque amplifier design handbook by B B Babani. From 1971 and mostly valve amps but some tremelo/vibrato and fuzz circuits. Some scary looking valve effects that need 150v to work!
Handbook of Practical Electronic Musical Novelties by B B Babani. Not all effects but some interesting circuits in here including the EA tremelo.
Electronic Music Projects by R A Penfold. Some good if dated stuff.
Practical Electronic Musical Effects Units by R A Penfold. I like the 'Metal pedal' which is a ring modulator not a metal distortion but I couldn't get the auto wah to work properly.
Practical Electronic Music Projects by R A Penfold. Some repetition but some different circuits in here as well.
There is also another Penfold book that i can't find at the moment.
Projects for the electric guitar by J Chatwin. I dont have this one.
Advanced Projects for the Electric guitar by J Chatwin. Despite what it says there is some simple stuff in here. I especially like the optical compressor and the tremelo which is very deep.
Not babani but published by maplin;
Music Projects by R A Penfold. Mainly slightly different versions of some of the projects in his other books but some good stuff including a Bass Fuzz which is impressive.

Hope this helps

I have found Brian Wampler's books at www.indyguitarist.com very useful. I guess their use to you would depend on how much you already know. I started out a year ago knowing absolutely nothing and have built some very useful pedals as well as turning average pedals into great ones with some of his mods.
