Hey guys,

I'm trying to design a switching unit that allows me to have 4 loops, with 4 banks of dip switches (each with 4 switches on), that allows me to select between 4 preset patches of effects.

So, you hit footswitch 1 and it selects the first bank of 4 dip switches and this tells it which of the 4 loops are on or off. hit footswitch 2 and it moves to the second bank of footswitches, but also deactivates the first bank of dip switches so that switching between patches is not a 2-switch operation.

I've been looking at CMOS switching and flipflops, especially from reading the info on the geofex site. However, I can't figure out how to make one switch deativate the other activated patch as well as activate the patch I want.

How would you guys go about this problem?

Hi!

The 74c373 (74hct373/74hc373/etc.) chip hook up in the manner explained by R.G. just do that automatically. With one switch pressed (momentary) it will activate the loops "programmed" for that particular switch and will deactivate the ones activated before by another switch as "programmed" by the dip switches.

Go read the articles on programmable footswitch setups at GEO (http://www.geofex.com). There are several, so look through the site. The "radio button" style selector circuit with the 74C373 is in  "A programmable FX switching system " dated 1/18/2000.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
