Hey.
So I want to build this hotbox and use it as my preamp for recording.
The thing is I have made a bunch of builds but I am not goot at all with reading the schematics.
I was wondering If someone could help me build this.
From those pictures It doesent seem that hard.

So if someone could help me this would be a huge favor.

Thanks
Matt

Nice little project, I'd be into building one of those :o)
If you're going to use it for recording, you might need a cabinet simulator...running that direct to a computer/console could sound like junk. There are lots of schems for simulators on here, too.     If you're going to mic your amp, you'll be ok.

What are you having trouble with re. schematic reading?  You can get lots of help in here, just ask specific questions!  You'd need to get the data sheet for whatever tubes you choose (12AT7, 12AX7...).  That will tell you which pin on the socket is for what element (plate, heater, catchode, etc).    Then wire it up, using those pins as the 'part' shown on the schem.   Step 1 is to make a parts list by reading thru the article and looking at the schem, then order the stuff.  Esp. the transformer and 9 pin tube sockets (min. 2).

This one looks very simple as far as tube stuff goes. If you PM me, I would be glad to check how you are wiring it up or help with parts n' stuff!

You could buy an actual hotbox (e.g. on ebay), take it apart, and use it as a sort of guide for making your own. Then when yours is finished and hopefully, working, sell the hotbox (ebay again). I have one, I've taken it apart and it doesn't look too complicated. Remember you are working with high voltages, just like an amp, so read up on discharging caps and how to work safely on an amp (or in this case a hotbox) on the amp forums.
