As stated in the text it`s pretty much a Fuzz Face. How about that Grit knob though? Anyone?

it's probably just a sag control or a pot in the feed back loop... there are so many designs that are extremely modded fuzz faces you've probably be able to find the exact mod by looking at some of the variations here http://aronnelson.com/gallery/J-Gagan-NVN-Schematics
