Never read about it but I'm sure that someone may have done it before.

I replaced the 3.9k with a 5k-A pot and the 47uf cap to the center lug. To get around 6.7v at the collector I replaced the 68k with a 82k.

The pot controls the amount of gain so a less drastic effect can be obtained when hiting the strings hard. But a little brightness is lost.

Many times, I like to have a switch on the 47uF cap so I can switch between "high-gain" and "low-gain" modes.
