I build the so-simple compressor, and am having some trouble... the schematic sheet says to trim VR1 until 'the drain voltage on Q1 is 4.8v - 5.4v. is this the voltage between the drain and ground? as i move the trimpot, that voltage only varies between 9.49v and 9.65v. i've checked the pot, it's value ranges from 0 ohm to about 16 kohm, so that's not the issue

i don't expect miracles, but is there something obvious i'm missing that would cause this? am i measuring 'drain voltage' correctly?

New question.... if a J201 JFET if fried, would it internally short the source and the drain? i'm measureing a short across my JFET, but can't find it anywhere...

1st thing is to make SURE you have all the fets oriented properly.
