channel switching box / LED issues

hey guys

I am trying to make/mod a channel switching box with led's for an Engl amp. I tried a bogner one (trs stereo) with led's an it did work on the Engl. The problem was that the amp has 4 volume controls (clean crunch lead1 lead2) when I plug the switch box in the amps clean volume knob no longer works. Instead the volume is controlled by the crunch channel. The same is true with the lead 1 channel being useless and controlled by the lead 2 volume knob. If I use a channel switcher with NO led's it works just fine. Does anyone know what might be going on here? If I cannot figure out what is wrong I am probably going to have to resort to using a battery/DPDT switches to turn the led's on/off appropriately. So...anyone know what might be wrong here??
