BBD Pitch Shifter

Hi, I thought of a way to make pitch shifters in analog form using bucket brigade devices (BBDs) rather than digital RAMs.  Basically for downshifting frequency you alternate between two BBDs, loading up one while you empty the other.  Something like a triangle wave with modifications would control the clock and the outputs would be smoothly switched somehow to prevent spikes.

This idea might be old hat and knowing electronics it probably is, however I felt it would be worth mentioning just in case it was new and actually would work.  Over at electro-music.com chat (#electro on blitzed, IRC) the idea was met with favor.  What is your response?

Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

Thanks so much anchovie, very interesting!  For those who do not follow the link, the conclusion after testing was that it sort of works but is generally impractical.

It's what we had easily available to us back then.  Technology has moved on, and so have we.

Depends if your goal is to make a clean pitch shift or an interesting noise. :)

"Interesting noises" are easy to make.  I just have to eat cheese and wait about 90 minutes. :icon_mrgreen:
