Could someone explain?

I have started doing some reading on the basics of guitar pedals and how they work. I've built several and have spent quite a bit of time looking at schematics. I just really would like to understand exactly why certain values are picked and what certain sections are doing. Could someone pick a pedal or amp and just walk me through it. Or refer me to another topic or article that does?  I don't care what one. I know this would take some time and really it. Thanks.
