anyone got any 1ohm 1% 1watt resistors in australia?

hey guys

does anyone know of a store in sydney that sells 1ohm 1% 1watt metal oxide resistors in australia?

i need two of them to bias the tubes in my amp and i dont really want to have to pay a $29USD fedex fee for a couple of 50c resistors

maybe someone would be kind enough to send me a couple via auspost? - paul is this the type of thing you keep on hand?

Grab a pack of 8 carbon films from Jaycar and use your DMM to see which is closest to 1 ohm.

yeah i was thinking of doing this - i actually bought a pack of 2 1ohm 1watts from jaycar last time i was in there - they were both 1.1ohm - i would have tested in store but they were plastic sealed.. looks like ill have to go back with my pointy ended multimeter probes poke my way through the plastic

not really feasable as its quite tight hanging off the power tube socket to ground. besides i think it would be messy to have two where only 1 was required.

Selecting with a multimeter is OK if you are 100% sure your meter is much better than 1%.

I guess 100% is impossible... maybe 99%.

But the 1% are precision, they shoudn't ever has 1.1Ohm instead of 1Ohm... Why is that?

The 10 ohm is the smallest 1% metal film Jaycar carry (in packs of 8, for your inconvenience )

Wouldn't all those little manufacturing inconsistencies start adding up then? My opinion on Jaycar has greatly improved in the last day or two, I managed to become a registered business with them so I get trade discount. The guy who served me also builds stompboxes and was pretty cool.

Selecting with a multimeter is OK if you are 100% sure your meter is much better than 1%.

well its a fluke so i should hope so!

it is much quicker and much more stable at deciciding what value a part is - my old multimeter would stuff around for about a second with values going all over the place, it would then fluctuate more than i liked.

i can pick a lot of holes in jaycar's parts selection. i presume its mainly profit motivated - but they claim to want to provide the best parts available - i am constantly having to order from other electronics stores in aust and overseas.

So far as tolerances go - if you connect 1% resistors together in any pattern at all, the result is within 1% of the theory.
Some people could prove that mathematically for ALL cases, but even I canprove it for the parallel & series case (well, for small N  ).

As for Jaycar, they have chosen to try to sell electronic stuff to the masses. Unfortunately, the number of people who think tricked up cars & fart machines are cool, far exceeds the numbers of FX DIYers. And the stock range reflects this. Building FX takes a bit of planning. And, some parts are goijng to have to come from overseas - but at least if you get them from Steve at SmallBear, or your switches from Aron, there won't be a fedex charge.

I've just been ordering 3PDT's from eBay at the moment - $10 each for CIC-branded switches, which isn't too bad I guess. While I've got some money to blow, I ordered a heap of stuff in bulk, so that should keep me going for quite a few more builds.
