GT313A pinout?

Hey guys,

I ordered a batch of these Russian made GT313A transistors to mess around with. I've read all the posts on the forum that mentioned them, and it sounds like no one can really agree if they are all that great or not. I've been trying to test the Hfe of a few, but no matter how I arrange the transistor's pins I get a reading of almost 9V. Would anyone here happen to know the correct pinout of this transistor? The datasheet that came with it is all in Russian of coarse, so that's not much help.

Thanks,

Nick

Look at it this way- everyone rags on air guitar here because everyone can play guitar.  If we were on a lawn mower forum, air guitar would be okay and they would ridicule air mowing.

Ah! Excelent thank you! I'm assuming the character that resembles an E is the emitter, the funky K is the collector, and the weird B is the base.

QuoteP.S. do you have a gieger counter?

Nope, I'll let the box air out outside for half an hour.  :icon_confused:

You looking for a circuit to use with those? I just finished a kickass booster designed around the GT313. I call it the Kosmonaut. I could maybe post it up if anyone's interested.
Oh, and the fourth pin is just connected to the case, so you can ground it for shielding.

A circuit would be excellent soulsonic, please post it! I'm glad to hear someone is using them. I've read they have very low Hfe, is it alright to make darlington pairs when using them?

+1

or a chernobyl reactor or something...
hfe measurements would be nice... please, no leaky trannies...  :icon_confused:

Actually, yes, I do.  :icon_biggrin:

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

I've tested the gain for 25 of them, they seem to be evenly distributed between 10Hfe and 90Hfe. I'm breadboarding a hybrid fuzz with one of the higher gain ones now. I don't really know what nominal leakage would be, but on a tranny with a reading of 80 Hfe, the leakage was 3 Hfe. That seems low, am I correct?

Here's an update:

I breadboarded a Fuzz Face, unmodified except for a 2meg gain pot as opposed to the 1meg of the original, and different collector resistor values. I tried a silicon and a GT313A at first, but didn't care for it too much, so I tried two GT313As instead. It sounds pretty cool! Very heavy fuzz (very heavy considering my guitar has a pretty weak output), I think it's because the biasing is odd. The transistors seem to sound the best at a very low voltage IMO, but I still plan on doing some more experimenting with this. It also cleans up very nice, and I seem to get a decent range of fuzzyness from the whole rotation of the gain pot. Here's some figures if anyone is interested.

Q1 80Hfe with a collector voltage of 1.48V

Q2 88Hfe with a collector voltage of 2.22V

I would post a clip but A) I'm a bad guitar player and B) I have no mic. This is pretty much the first time I've done any experimenting with a circuit, and I really like it. If I modify it enough so it's not just a Fuzz Face I'll post a schematic layout (Comrade Fuzz appropriate?).

By the way, I can't get any signal past the resistor that's connected to the collector of Q2, I've tried swapping all the components, but still no luck. Any ideas why this is happening? I had to use the audio probe to listen to it, so I only had the gain control.

sengo,

it would be really HEALTHFUL if you send RG your germs... pack it in 2cm thick aluminum wrapper, so that nobody gets irradiated by the gamma rays during the transportation process...

just kidding, yo!

the hfe's look cool dude! soundclips, perhaps? even direct recording...

rangemaster!!

I'll try and get a sound clip up soon, but it may be a few days.
