QuoteBoy, do I beg to differ!  I had to beat the living hell out of mine, to the point where I ALMOST gave up.  I got "lucky" with mine, I guess.

Really? I wouldn't exactly call that lucky...  :icon_wink:

Mine was pretty easy to get out.

QuoteYou don't have to beat it to death, some light tapping with a hammer is all it should take.

If you didn't unscrew the piece of metal that put tension to the pin, or if you tapped the pin from the wrong side, then you really got "lucky". :icon_lol:

I don't even think you'd get it out at all if you did either of those things, would you?  I honestly don't know what the deal was with mine, if yours fell out on its own.  Mine was absolutely locked in, to the point where I swore I was going to break the shell entirely.  It was pretty ridiculous.  In fact, I never did get it fully out, and ended up having to tape it off so I could paint the treadle.  The whole experience convinced me that the OE finish is just fine and dandy, for future reference!

I just did it to one of mine, and timed it. Including the time it took me to walk across the room to grab my hammer, it took 36 seconds. No need to smash, just tap, a little harder, and a little harder if needed, and soon you'll feel it starting to sink. You MUST not hit it from the wider end (it won't go anywhere!)

Cheers!
I like amps etc.

I've painted a couple of Wahs and IMO you're fine leaving the paint but at least rough it up with sandpaper first.  If you don't rough up the existing paint the new paint will scratch off easily...just my opinion based on my experience w/ hammertone paint.
