Anyone know what was used to get the guitar sounds on the album called "Ten"? Is there any pedals involved, or was it all amp?

I'm quite sure it's Strato (for Mccready) and Les Paul (for Gossard) through Tube Screamer, Rotovibe, and CryBaby to plain JCM 800 100 W.
Big part of the sound is Rick Parashar microphone positioning, it seems he captured the real sound of the amps plus the right amount of ambience.

The MI Audio Crunch Box and the BSIAB2 both got me real close to those tones (Alive) with my Peavey Classic 30.......

McCready played vintage strats. For amps he used vintage bassmans and plexis. For effects I think he had a tube screamer, wah, univibe and a boss dm-3 delay.

Gossard played mostly les pauls through a tubescreamer, sonic distortion, and some other stuff through a savage amp.

thats from memory and just stuff i remember reading, some may be wrong

Hi Kyle and powerplayj
the rig you're talking about is the Evolution of the original setup
I saw them in the early 90's and I clearly remeber the JCM800s, I bought mine since...
For the Vibe I'm pretty sure, I remember McCready varying the rate rocking the foot over the pedalboard, crystal sign of a Rotovibe :) (my rig sounds waaaaay similiar)

Yeah, I saw those rigs at guitargeek.com - those are circa 1997. I seem to remember them being mostly amp tones around the release of "Ten". It's been a while...  :icon_surprised:

maybe, somewhere, I have a video of the gig I saw, back in '92, here in Milano, a local music tv station recorded the show, I'm in the middle of the crowd trying to breath...:D
Paul, are you interested in?
