I read somewhere that you should use class 3 ceramics in the tone sections, just wondering what the different "class" represents and if it will make a noticeable difference.

I have no idea between the classes are, in fact I've never wondered.  Reading through all the FAQ's and info here and on other sites, IIRC none of them make any mention of classes.  I hope someone will chime in if I am wrong here, but I am quite sure there will be no to barely any difference.

I just did some googling and found this link. http://my.execpc.com/~endlr/ceramic.html  Many of this is beyond me but maybe it can help you.  From what I gather from briefly glancing at it, temperature and voltage drift are a couple of characteristics that differ between classes.

I know that some prefer certain types of ceramic caps (for certain places ) in tube amps but I'm not sure if this is a high voltage thing or a matter of a certain cap material and construction sounding better in general.

I do know that I have heard people say that "multi layer" ceramics are supposed to sound better.

It depends where in the circuit you put them, and as always the parts you use as a spice. Too much of one can ruin the soup.

I tried the class 3 ceramics. It did make a difference for me, but I didn't like the sound for my application.

They are cheap so go and try them!

Thanks Aron, I use to use WIMA box caps for small pf values but I dont see them on mouser. So it seems like its either the cheapo ceramics or mica which is over a buck a piece. Just wanted to know if the different classes of ceramics will make a difference.
