Anyone got a schematic for a LED VU meter.  I'm gonna build a stereo pair for line level for the stereo mix for a live sound project, don't ask why, it's complicated.  Anyways, there is a LM3916 IC from National Semiconductor that seems to be the successor to the NSM3916 that Craig Anderton uses in his LED Level meter project from Projects For Guitarists but this IC is slightly different.  So, any schematics or other options?

Dead cassette decks abound.  I stole the chips and PCB from one of those to do a VU meter.

Hi
+1 for that project at ESP, linked above.  There's lots of good info and projects at that site.
The project gives data for a (nearly) log series of resistors so that the display scale is nearly log (for an LM3915 chip).  There's also an LM3916 chip which is ready-made for log scale (see the datasheet).
For some damn reason, mine never worked.  It think I had too much rubbish in the power supply line (it was for a 300W SS amp).
cheers
