I have built a simple rotary switch switch box. It switches the the input to either output 1,2 or 3.  Everything works fine except it's produces a loud thump on each switching/click. There is no LED and all the circuits that I have tried have a pull down resistor so it's not that.

I am using a Lorlin CK1062 which according to the data sheet is a 'shorting' type. Is this a make before break, or break before make? And if I got the 'non shorting' version would this lower the swtich noise or wouldn't it make a difference?

Thanks
Simon.

That's a "make before break", so for a short time it's actually connected to 2 inputs.  A "break before make" would be a better choice but I don't know if it would reduce the noise.

Yes, the  "break before make" or non-shorting is better. The only noise you may hear is the mechanical noise that any passive mechanical switch make.
