Any audible comparison ever made LM386-N1 <> N3/4 ?

I ask again because I simply can't get any decent sounds out of the 386-N1 at normal 9V.
I remember a lot of advise of using at least N3, but IIRC it was all about supply voltages above 9V.
N3 and N4 never were available in "the shop around the corner".
Is really extreme important to use higher voltage chips soundwise?

brand matters and I don't like how a 386 sounds clipping

the lm series are prone to oscillations. jrc are a lot better. To use the lm, use the rc suggested in the datasheet...
