Hey,

for a few projects a friend gave me a few caps that were like these.. http://pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=3027&Category_Code=CAPF   they had longer leads though.

I really loved the sound they made compaired to the red and orange caps out there that are not boxed.
Is there something about the box ones that are different?
What brand would those be witht he longer leads? Where can i get them in different values?

Thanks

Matt

"SOURCE FOR BOX CAPACITORS"

The yellow box caps with the short leads are AVXes. I've never seen them with long leads, so I'm not sure what those are.

I like AVX caps. They look cool. :icon_biggrin:

AVX caps are nice for their size and quality.  However, sometimes I wish I had longer leads, like when I'm trying to replace a 1uf electrolytic for a 1uf film in a CE-3 or something.  having the leads a bit longer would give me more room to play with to squeeze them in.

Which caps are the red ones? Panasonic?
I've been wanting to try the avx box caps in the BSIAB2. What about the sound do you prefer? My builds have been with the panasonic caps from small bear.

is this the normal length?

Is that the AVX cap?  That looks much longer than the one link to pedalpartsplus

If we're thinking of the same red ones, those are Wima.

I have caps that look identical to that - they are generic branded caps from Jaycar, I do believe they are MKT. I'm using them in all my effects.

Yea,thems are mkt's i use 'em and i was honestly surprised at how nice they sound compared to a  greenie cap or orange drops, so now i use 'em all the time.

expensive doesn't always mean better hey! lol

  The smoother high end brighness.
Very much like the flavor contained in a can of 'Mojo Worm'.
I actually swore to myself I was hearing things.
But I find they are easy to handle, I like the 'flat mount' look, sometimes they are easy to read, other times I need a mag-glass to find the relevant numbers, and they sound great !
The ones with the short fatter leads...
Tend to make for a deep keel on the board which...
Makes it hard to heat the pad and position the iron.
don't allow 'double lead' stuffing in pad holes which...
makes it hard to hold the lead in place while soldering, it's best to twist the 'other lead around which...
makes it necessary to plan all lead lengths carefully or..
Press the lead on to the other leads group, and hope it doesn't spring up when you let the iron off it, or pin it down with a flat-tip screwdriver as it cools.
  ...that said...
they stick in sockets real nice, and once acclimated to working with them it's not near as big a hassle as it sounds, there's usually a workable solution..I've had a few boards turn out looking like they had cold solders/partial pad coverage, but they worked.
They are nice caps, maybe there's mojo instruments can't read, perhaps it's the yellow color and squared shape that makes 'em sound smooth, flat and bright.
