Alright, I finally got around to trying my hand at combining Tim E.'s CMOS Boost, and the Red Llama.

Here are the schems i used:

i noticed that the Boost and the Llama use different CMOS chips, but i just used one of the unused inverters on the CD4049UBE for the boost.  Will this work this way?

Also, i know this is messy, i just wanted to get your comments before I tighten up the layout.

I replaced the VOL control on the boost side with just a 100k resistor.  What size would you guys suggest for unity with the Llama when they are both engaged?  Also, i grounded all of the unused pins on the chip.  is this what you are supposed to do?

thanks in advance guys!

Looks OK to me except that D1 is the wrong way round the band should go towards pin1 of the 4049 not ground. You should also only ground the unused inputs of the inverters not the outputs as well.
Using a 4049 for the booster should work fine, for what we want to do with these chips 4049s and 4069s are interchangeable.
The only other thing you might want to do is add pads so that you can add a resistor from between R7 and R1 to ground. This will let you reduce the volume of the booster using a voltage divider because it might be too loud for the Llama bit of the circuit.
Be interested to see how this turns out because I was thinking about doing something similar.

Ian,
Awesome! thank you so much for checking this for me.  i'll make the appropriate changes and post once more.  I think i might change the 100k resistor to a trimpot so i can dial in the right volume....

thanks again!

i am an idiot, and realized i didn't figure in switching....

i'll update and repost
