Voice Changer as guitar effect

I've been thinking of getting something like this: http://www.worldmarket.com/Y/Christmas/Voice-Changer/lev/4/productId/4314/No/135/Ne/6/Nao/135/pCategoryId/30/Ns/NEW_ARRIVAL_FLAG|1/N/30+4294967266/Nty/1/categoryId/30/gpCategoryId/7/index.pro
and then taking out the insides and basically making it into a effect pedal. Would this work? Changing the input from the mic to a 1/4" jack and the same for the output, right?

You need a glade plug-in, in on a footswitch.  Kick on the big muff, then hit the air freshener pedal.

When I click the link I get directed to a page featuring a "hand crafted caravan". I presume you don`t wish to process your guitar through this object. Or is it the French truffles on the same page?

I thought not.

Judging by the thread header what you are referring to is one of those gimmicky voice altering effects sold as novelties. I have tried this and it is possible. Try it with some kind of booster for a lo-fi/sci-fi effect. I used it with a Rocktek distortion pedal and while it gave a result, it wasn`t useful enough for me to want to pursue.

Go for it.

A search for "voice changer" brought up a few threads on this subject, so you might be able to get some info from them.

In this one (click), KMS says "Of course it does not work by just simply wiring in an input and output jacks."

Some others that might help

Its usually done by the Holtkek 8950 or the win 8072. These are integrated citcuits, which need minimal additional circuitry. I have heard some good and some bad about these. Remember they were made with voice in mind. Dean Hazelwanter has a circuit for guitars using the Holtek8950 but I never tried it. Try google and the search fuction here.

If you want to build this you might want to alter the output. The signal is large for a proper line level output. You might try a pot before the jack.

i did this once and it is one of my favorite pedals to mess around with, just change the mic to input and put a volume pot on the end and replaced the speaker with an output.  i really like playing my bass through it.

I did this.  It was the nastiest sounding thing ever.  I love it.

DO IT!

Where did you get the changer you used at? :icon_question:
And how much?
I have little cash, but some left over supplies and I want to make this soon.

The parts (jacks, enclosure, led, etc.) were just leftover odds and ends on my desk.

The voice changer was 99 cents at Salvation Army!  The crazy thing is, that's exactly what we came looking for.  I got an atari 2600 as well.  Check thrift stores for these things often.  They turn up all the time, especially at the end of October, seeing as it's the end of halloween season.  If you can't wait, or track one down that way, there's halloween shops, amazon.com, and ebay.  You'll spend a lot more there, though.
