i just ordered all of my parts for my first DIY pedal. i am going to build a Red Llama because the circuit seems pretty simple and they are pretty well liked. i ordered a 3PDT switch and an LED and I would like to know where they belong.

i'm using this layout:

does the "ground" in the middle lug connect to the bottom left corner of the vero (i think that's ground)? and the LED just connects directly to the "LED Negative" in the diagram - that will supply power?

one more thing - as far as cutting the vero goes, can i just cut anywhere on the board? i ordered a board from the gallery and they are much bigger than this circuit. will some wire cutters work for cutting it?

any help is greatly appreciated. i'm really excited to build my first pedal! special thanks to andy carrell for creating such a great DIY gallery.

Connect the Ground to your common ground point - usually the sleeve on the input jack.

You are right about the LED-ve . Remember to use a current limiting resistor in series with the LED - say 4.7K . And remember to connect the +ve of the LED to the +ve power.  :icon_redface: I have forgotten to do this in the past

For cutting the vero, cut it to size before you start. You can score along it with a sharp knife/carpet knife/scalpel etc then snap it.

I've found that one of those mini-needle files (the one that is rather flat, but has relatively sharp edges, I forget the name of that design--DOH!) works great for lightly scoring, then deepening the cut after defining it ... makes it fairly easy then to either snap or use some nippers and nip/crunch along that line.

You'll really enjoy this pedal. If you want to smooth it out a bit (if you have a brighter amp, for instance), you could try a silver mica 220 or 250 pF cap between lugs 1 & 3 (two outside lugs) of the volume pot. 100 pF is a pretty small amount for the "smooth mod" and 470 pF might be a bit too much unless you like a somewhat dark lead tone ... it depends on your guitar/amp combo. I like 250 pF.
