People get hung up about the fedback caps (470pF or 500pF).
Small, ceramic disc NPO caps are ok for that job, but a greencap should be good, too.  If you believe everything you read, you'll go mad.  :icon_wink:

Hey,

So I just wanted to update the project.

I have NOT ordered parts yet. Someone told me they ran there Boss BD2 (Blues Driver) after their Green Sovtek Muff and it got a G2 like sound.
I took ming and set it up like this. Mine has been modded to the montie allums kit spects and I put it after. It got very close to the sound of the G2. Just a lot more harsh, very "jumbled" sound. So If I could figure out how to build this as 1 whole pedal (I dont want to have to go out and buy BD-2's to make this. I also need to figure how to make it quiet still and get more not definition.

Thanks Guys

Matt

I really think you should check out the Jacques Mercer Box: http://www.jacquesstompboxes.com/mercerbox.htm
Watch the video demo, it really seems to do all the things you're talking about wanting, and it's not very expensive at all.

That does sound somewhat decent, but I really am wanting to build it on my own. Thats half the part i like about it. Being able to make it and no what is inside the beast.

Is there and BD2 projects that I could kind of do the FF Rm idea, but muff and BD2?

brett

Hi
The muff is quite high-gain and heavily filtered, and when the BD-2 gain is added, it's no wonder that it's high-gain, muffled and noisey.

Have you listened to the Jordan Bosstone?  It might be closer to what you want.  It has a very clear sound because it is a single gain stage (albeit into a dynamic load) with modest filtering and "diode to ground" clipping, which has sharper tones than "feedback diode" clipping.

Having those 2 together was a great thick tone though. ITs like if i could have the BD2 doing the gain and the rest of the muff still there, but with the gain mostly down it would be awesome.

I found a site that has a schematic for the BD2 and I was thinking if I could just build that along with the russian green muff and have it after the muff. Make the muff's gain a internall trim pot, i'm not sure what tone should be master or if there would be a neutral setting one the 2 and then just add a tone control that would control the whole thing.

The only problems I had with mine were the massive noise, not enough sustain as i hear the real thing gets. Trying to get more note deffinition and make it less harsh wile trying to stay close to the same tone seems a issue...
